FebNature Of Truth; Significance Of Faith
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” HEBREWS 11:1
“Cogito Ergo Sum” latin for “I think, therefor i am” …. Something Descates came up with, in the answer to all the rationalist rhetorical questions about truth…
“I know, therefore it’s true.” Is that a true statement, or just a belief?
Everyone’s so worried about Truth Truth Truth..Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong; What’s Right, What’s Wrong…
Everyone who has religion, or a lack of religion (which frankly, i consider a religion in itself..), all think they’re in the right; that their doctrine is the right one; that what they believe in isn’t just a belief, but a fact.
Some say (and i agree) those that have salvation have knowledge, a gift from God. But others think that because they don’t have religion, they are thinking on their own, without supernatural spoofs getting in their way of rational thinking, and thus must be right. Wouldn’t that make them less-spiritually educated and thus closed-minded and ignorant? The Bible implies that those with a “dead soul”, or those without salvation, can only think for themselves, for they do not have the Hold Spirit guiding them.
Let us understand, first, the core philosophies about what is right and what is wrong… some originating from the Greeks and others from the beginning root, the Ionians.
Epistemology is the philosophy of knowledge (i.e., How do we know what is true or false, what is real or not? Can we know anything for certain, or is it ultimately hopeless?)
The Greeks outlined two opposing approaches to the problem of knowledge. One is called empiricism, which says that all knowledge comes through the senses. The other is called rationalism, which says that knowledge is a matter of reason.
Ethics is a philosophy also originating from the Greeks. It is the philosophical understanding of good and bad, right and wrong. It is often called morality, and most consider the two words synonymous. For the present, however, we might want to differentiate the extremes of hedonism and cynicism.
Hedonism says that good and bad come down to “what I like and what I don’t like”, “what gives me pleasure and what gives me pain”. Cynicism says that the world is essentially evil, and we can only work at distancing ourselves from it and moving towards the ultimate good, which is God. But that of course brings us back to the debate of religion.
Consider this: in school I’ve vaguely studied a medieval scholar named Saint Thomas Aquinas. See, some people from the Middle Ages believed that true knowledge could only come reason, while others believed it could only come from faith. Now, Aquanis came up with the theory that reason and faith were both gifts from God and thus could not contradict. Aquinas introduces the aspect of a harmonic blend of both views put into one new outlook.
I guess that truth is subjected to the matter of pure faith. It is something that one cannot truly have, but can believe to truly have. Maybe, whether or not one has a religion, nobody will ever know if they are right. Possibly having religion is germane to having truth, or lack thereof. Is anybody right? Does anybody truly have truth? The definition of TRUTH is: a fact that has been verified. There are some things in the Bible that can be verified, (and even then, most people will still argue……classic) and some things that can not be verified..(which i think that’s what God intended) And then there are the things that God promises that will later on be verified and proven… But in any case, maybe truth isn’t what matters anyway….God wants us to have WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING and there’s NO better way to get those than having a relationship with God and reading the Word…
And this is IMPORTANT…
God doesn’t caaarrrreee if we are SMART, if we KNOW all the “answers”, if we KNOW what IS TRUEEEE…. Because the important thing is that WE USE OUR KNOWLEDGE the RIGHT WAY.. which is what WISOM IS.. (which again.. is what GOD WANTS US TO HAVE) ” Get Wisdom! Get Understanding!” - Proverbs 4:5
But wisdom IS the right USE of knowledge. To know is not be be wise. To know HOW TO USE knowledge is to have wisdom.. and yes, that takes practice and prayer.. BUT.. OBTAINING WISDOM is simple… it doesnt happen in one day, of course.. no, you get more wisdom everyday.. BUT.. If you ask for it ( WITH FAITH!) then you WILL RECEIVE IT.. and GOD is tryyying to tell everyone that!..
(hence the verse: )
People often get mixed up with having WISDOM and having KNOWLEDGE..(know the truth) “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be giving to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:5-8
Pretty much,
“EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR HIM WHO BELIEVES” MARK 9:23
and nothing will happen if you do not have faith.. you can not obtain wisdom WITH OUT FAITH.. and you cannot obtain UNDERSTANDING without FAITH.. (because otherwise it would turn into some sort of oxymoron..haha. if you do NOT BEEELLLIIIEEVVVEE, than you cannot KKKNNNOOOWWW… anyyyyyyyything
So preeeeeeetttttyyyyyyy much.. it all boils down to ONE THING.. FAITH.. FAITH IN THE LORD..
because MAN cannot KNOW anything with God’s help.. “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” PROVERBS 3-5..) period.
“Thou wilt keep in perfect peace, where mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusted in Thee” - Isaiah 26:3
It’s soooo simple, people.
